Explorers' Narratives of Sight

The Beehive Lady and The Beehive Observatories – Woodford Academy 2017

In 1874 Mr. Alfred Fairfax built a beehive shaped observatory in the grounds of Woodford Academy in to observe the transit of Venus.

In 2016 I built a beehive-shaped structure resembling the observatory. I had discovered a beekeepers hat and veil used by one of Mr. Fairfax’s daughters, clearly bees were kept at Woodford as a vital source of sweetness. The movement of the planets was complemented by the dance of bees. I tried to capture a moment of this time.
